Red Sox Home Opener

The Boston Red Sox had the perfect home opener last night at Fenway against the Baltimore Orioles. The Sox skated by with a 3-1 win. After a dramatic year of under former manager Bobby Valentine, the Sox have a sense of direction under Farrell. The team is playing the way Coach Farrell hoped they would when spring training started. Farrell and pitching coach Juan Nieves have been working well together in their rotation. Clay Buchholz threw seven shutout innings against the Orioles, allowing only three singles. He struck out eight and walked four. The Sox are undefeated in the four games started by Buchholz and the number 1 starter, Jon Lester. The two have allowed three earned runs over 26 innings. Red Sox starters have a 2.45 earned run average with 47 strikeouts over 40innings. They have won nine consecutive home openers, the longest active streak in the majors. More importantly, they are 5-2 and currently in first place. The 2013 season looks very promising for Boston.
